KOTA KINABALU – Bersatu supreme council member Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin has been placed under an induced coma at a private hospital here today, after contracting Covid-19 recently.

A source close to the politician said the 66-year-old tested positive on August 12, after he returned from a work visit with Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor in Kudat that morning.

The former Beaufort MP has a history of chronic illnesses, including heart and kidney problems.

The source said Lajim was screened at Gleneagles Hospital Kota Kinabalu and admitted to KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital on August 13.

After his health deteriorated, the hospital decided to place him under an induced coma today, added the source.

Lajim is also Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia executive chairman. In 2019, he dissolved his Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah to join Bersatu.

The former Klias assemblyman held several ministerial positions, including federal deputy housing and local government minister under the cabinet of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. – The Vibes, August 24, 2021
